Thanks for the link. I was looking through the messages and didn't see it. But, I didn't go through them all...my bad. I'm reading the Sampler now and that was the first time I ever read it. The story really had me captivated and I couldn't stop thinking about it.
Also, I don't think of it as a horror story either. I thought that was strange too.
I wonder if we would consider it a horror story if we weren't as familar with the historical basis. Knowing that Peter remained happily married, that the Wilders moved a few more times, etc, I've never read it considering that the Rose character might die. As for the Sampler listing, it's a little confusing that it's under William Anderson rather than the title. He just has so many books and some are so short, it was considered easier to create the one main topic than 15+ for each book.

I've wondered the same thing pahiker. Laura's cousin Peter did go to Florida and marry a girl from that area. We also know the Wilders lived in Florida for a time. Makes me wonder if there is some truth to Rose's story.
